Planning and Its Genres
There is a difference between planning for a party v planning for a community. My "reception" or 1-year wedding anniversary party is in less than 2 months, and we still have so much to do. This past weekend, I met my mom at my aunt's house (midway point). I tried on my wedding dress I wore to the courthouse last year. Turns out, a body can change a lot after a year and a severe drop in cortisol levels. In other words, I am going to need a massive push-up bra for this dress lol. Why is it always the boobs that go first? Regardless of party type and cost, there is always so much to consider. After this weekend, my to-do list has tripled in size lol. Yes, I am still unemployed, so I can manage it all fine and well, but jeeeez. This form of planning is absolutely exhausting.
Many years ago, when I was still driving my first car (Gold Dodge Intrepid), I had to figure out how to get to work for a week+ while she was in the shop.
Her crime = being old. (almost was my age at the time)
I decided to rent a car. I was still under 25 then, so it was a whole thing and boosted the already obscene price. I woke up very early on a Monday morning to Uber to a local rental place. I was fairly broke then, so I had to appeal to my dad for support. However, I wasn't told how much it would be before my arrival. Of course, I didn't have enough in my account. I don't even remember how I managed to get it sorted. Through blurry, wet eyes at 7am in this Poughkeepsie strip mall, I managed to get a rental at 22 years old.
This young man, probably only a few years older than me, led me to my new vehicle in the massive lot. Idk if this was just sales chat or some form of flirting, but he was blah blah blahing and then asked me what I do for work. I looked up with a tear-stained face and said, "I'm a planner."
Oh cool a wedding planner?!?!?!?!?
Something about that just struck me. It was somewhat of a last straw moment. Like GET ME OUT OF HERE. It was not outrageous for him to assume that since I gave him nothing to work with, though there was a strong misogynistic aura. I probably gave him a curt correction (for my dear reader(s): I am an urban/environmental planner by trade). God knows. But they took all my money, so I could drive off to the job that would later cover me with battle scars (::::: Ubers at the time (2019) would've been cheaper in hindsight.
Thinking back, I laugh at this ridiculousness and consider how I would never approach this situation as I had then. I would've PLANNED better. It is so crazy to be 22. I also realize I could never be a wedding planner. He thought too much of me, lol.
I likely won't post much or at all about my party. Just after this weekend, my mind was locked in on it, and this memory floated up. Figured I'd share this silly blip.
